While chasing to reclaim their Women's Africa Cup of Nations crown remains a priority, Banyana Banyana know there is far more at stake in Morocco.
Success at the tournament will also play a key role in South Africa's journey towards qualification for the FIFA Women's World Cup, adding extra significance to every match.
Head coach Dr Desiree Ellis revealed that the team has already begun preparing mentally for the challenge ahead.
"We had a meeting with the senior players and with the entire group, like we always do," Ellis said.
"They know what is at stake.
"We spoke to a lot of the players and they all said the same thing, qualifying for the World Cup is very important."
Ellis believes previous World Cup experience gives many members of the squad a valuable advantage, while also recognising that several players will be chasing that dream for the first time.
"There are players who have been there before and that helps," she said.
"There are also players who have never experienced it before. We have to make sure everyone is on the same page.
"It's difficult to explain to someone what to expect when they haven't experienced it themselves, but we'll continue reinforcing the message about how important it is for everyone to step up.
"Qualifying for the World Cup is massive for women's football in South Africa."
As Banyana Banyana edge closer to naming their final squad, Ellis faces difficult decisions, but the objective remains clear: assemble a balanced team capable of defending the continental title while taking another step towards football's biggest stage.
